Acupuncture for Pain

There are several explanations about how acupuncture treats pain.

Acupuncture causes an anti-inflammatory response, triggering the body to tap into its own self-healing tools. Although the needles are extremely small, they cause a micro-trauma to the tissues as they are inserted into the muscle or joint. This signals the Acupuncture cure for back painbody to react and stimulates a very effective self-healing process, without the use of chemicals. Acupuncture also brings attention to an injured area, increasing circulation and nourishment to promote recovery. Acupuncture also allows muscles to relax.

Acupuncture stimulates an endorphin release. Endorphins are chemicals that make a person feel better. In addition to “feeling good,” endorphins can also act like morphine on the body and the brain, hence reducing pain. Studies have shown that acupuncture is associated with a higher level of endorphins.

Gate Control Theory suggests that pain signals are transmitted to the brain through small nerve fibers. Larger nerve fibers send inhibitory signals to the small fibers which prevents the pain signal from being set off. When a painful stimulus comes in, the activity of the small nerve fibers overrides the large fibers and pain is felt. Acupuncture needles stimulate the large fibers so that the small fibers are unable to send pain signals to the brain.

Acupuncture is a very effective treatment for pain.
