Acupuncture for Pain
Acupuncture is best known as an effective treatment for pain. But pain is a broad term. You can have pain in any part of the body, and it can be caused by an array of different problems. So why is acupuncture such a unique and effective modality for relief? The short answer is that acupuncture works by stimulating your nervous system - the same system that tells your body to experience pain.
The long answer is more complicated. The nervous system is always involved, but the needles are placed in soft tissue (muscles, tendons and ligaments) to address the source of the dysfunction. I approach each patient with knowledge of traditional channel theory and orthopedic acupuncture (pain referral patterns, muscular functions, nerve pathways and fascial trains). The goal of each treatment is to get your pain to immediately shift. The real relief often comes a day or so later after your body has had ample time to react to my needles.
If you are considering seeing a doctor that prescribes meds or a surgeon that recommends surgery, I suggest you first come see if acupuncture is a better solution for you.
